Dee Vance is one of the biggest critics of aid to Ukraine. The nomination of James David Vance for the post of vice president of the USA is a disaster for Ukraine. Politico writes about this with reference to one of the high-ranking officials of the EU.
While Europe was already panicking about a second Trump presidency and its implications for US foreign policy, Vance’s addition to the GOP slate raised further questions about the new administration’s potential commitment to Ukraine.
James David Vance is a US senator and venture capitalist known for his memoir Hillbilly Elegy. The Republican Party of the United States at its convention on July 15, 2024, chose J.D. Vance as a candidate for the position of Vice President of the United States as a running mate of Donald Trump.
Vance clearly expressed his point of view on Ukraine. In 2022, he told Steve Bannon in an interview: “I have to be honest with you, I don’t care what happens to Ukraine one way or another.”
On April 20, 2023, Vance, along with 18 other representatives of the Republican Party of the United States, signed a letter to the President of the United States, Joseph Biden, in which it is stated that “unlimited aid to Ukraine by the United States of America must be stopped” and that those who signed the letter “will strongly oppose all future aid packages, unless these aid packages are coupled with a transparent diplomatic strategy to bring this war to a swift end.”
In February 2024, when Vance first spoke at the Munich Security Conference, where he said the US should reconsider its support for Ukraine, he skipped a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation and other senators.
Since then, his rhetoric has hardened, with the 39-year-old senator criticizing Europe’s reliance on the US for military spending and criticizing Germany, in particular, for failing to meet NATO’s defense spending target of 2% of GDP.
It will be recalled that Donald Trump was approved as the official candidate for the presidency of the USA from the Republican Party at the national convention in Milwaukee.
Trump has chosen Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate. In the Trump Social social network, the ex-president of the United States wrote that he decided to choose Dee Vance as his vice-presidential candidate after “long consideration”. He cited service in the US Marine Corps, work in finance and IT, and legal education as among his credits.
Dee Vance takes the most pro-Trump position and is the biggest critic of aid to Ukraine. He repeatedly opposed the supply of American weapons to Ukrainian soldiers. He also urged the White House to admit that Ukraine will have to give part of its territories to the Russians.
We will remind, on Saturday, July 13, during the election rally of Trump in Butler (Pennsylvania), there was a shooting. Trump received a minor wound – a bullet hit his ear. The shooter was eliminated by a Secret Service sniper.
As reported, in the pre-election race, the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, is only 2% ahead of his opponent, Joe Biden. The current leader of the country got as close as possible to his main rival.
By the way, most Americans believe that former US President Donald Trump will not give in if he loses the presidential election in November.
